The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on July 26. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Ranking Member Gregory W Meeks (D-NY) issued the following statement expressing deep concern over the unfolding situation in Niamey, Niger.

“We are deeply concerned by the situation unfolding in Niamey and strongly condemn those who are trying to subvert the democratically elected government of President Bazoum. Niger is a critical partner to the United States and to others in the region and we welcome Nigeria’s swift action to mediate. We will continue to closely follow the situation, including the safety and well-being of U.S. citizens."
