Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has requested another tranche of transcribed interviews for the committee’s investigation into the administration’s chaotic and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan.
As he announced on CNN’s “State of the Union," McCaul has now requested transcribed interviews of the administration’s top three spokespeople during the withdrawal and the evacuation: former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, National Security Council Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby, and former State Department Spokesperson Ned Price.
“As my committee continues seeking answers for the failed Afghanistan withdrawal, it’s crucial we hear from those who were acting as the voice of the administration," said Rep. McCaul. “The rosy messages these individuals conveyed to the American people throughout August 2021 vastly differed from the scene playing out on the ground. It’s time for these officials to come forward and give our Gold Star families - and the American people - the answers they desperately want and deserve."
Chairman McCaul has requested each of these witnesses contact the committee to arrange their transcribed interviews by Sept. 18, 2023.

Separately, Chairman McCaul has requested that former Foreign Service Officer Sam Aronson appear before the committee for a transcribed interview on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023. The committee is aware of Aronson’s experiences as a consular officer on the ground at HKIA, as detailed in a book, The Secret Gate, and it believes his testimony would be invaluable in better understanding the chaos, the tragedy, and the heroism during the evacuation.
