The following press statement was published by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs on Sept. 8. It is reproduced in full below.

On behalf of the Government of the United States of America, I share my best wishes to the people of Tajikistan as they mark 32 years of independence on September 9.

The United States reaffirms our commitment to supporting Tajikistan’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. We are proud to continue to strengthen our partnership through economic linkages, expanding people-to-people ties, supporting civil society, and bolstering cooperation to address climate change. As Tajikistan reflects on its achievements, we note there are many opportunities to continue working together to advance economic connectivity, strengthen regional security, and protect human rights. With hope, we look forward to promoting a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Tajikistan, enhanced by a strong and growing United States-Tajikistan bilateral relationship.

My sincere congratulations as you celebrate your independence.
