Deputy Secretary of State Richard Verma met with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei today in Guatemala City. Deputy Secretary Verma and President Giammattei discussed the importance of the U.S.-Guatemala relationship and ongoing collaboration under the U.S. Strategy for Addressing the Root Causes of Migration in Central America. The Deputy Secretary underscored the U.S. commitment to support a smooth and orderly transition to President-elect Arevalo’s administration. The Deputy Secretary and President Giammattei also discussed continued joint efforts on humane and effective migration management and citizen security.
