The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on July 12. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has signed a subpoena that was delivered to Secretary of State Antony Blinken yesterday for the department’s “competitive actions" calendars, key documents relating to the department’s reported obstruction of the use of national security tools, such as sanctions and export controls on entities like Huawei, aimed at countering the CCP’s growing aggression. This follows the department’s failure to comply with repeated document requests for this item. The department must comply with this subpoena by 10:00 am on July 17.

McCaul signing the subpoena

“Given the State Department’s continued refusal to comply with my committee’s urgent request for crucial information related to China, I am left with no choice but to issue a subpoena," stated the chairman. “It is vital the committee obtain these documents to shed light on the department’s reported failure to enforce U.S. national security laws against CCP companies and human rights abusers. The department must comply as legally obligated, further obstruction and delay will not be tolerated."
