The following Press Statement was published by the U.S Department of State, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs on June 29. It is reproduced in full below.

The Republika Srpska National Assembly adopted a law this week intended to nullify the Constitutional Court’s authority in the entity. This law violates the Bosnia and Herzegovina Constitution, and runs counter to the Dayton Peace Agreement. Defiance of the Constitutional Court threatens not just the rule of law but also the stability, security, and prosperity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Combined with the anti-Dayton rhetoric by some Republika Srpska leaders, the law represents a dangerous escalation in secessionist threats. The United States strongly supports the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and multiethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We will continue to hold individuals engaged in activities that run counter to the Dayton Peace Agreement responsible for their actions.
