From June 11 to June 15, Special Representative for Commercial and Business Affairs Dilawar Syed traveled to Baghdad, Iraq. Syed was the senior U.S. government official participant in a U.S.–Iraq Business Council (USIBC) delegation to Iraq. This delegation demonstrated the tremendous interest from the U.S. State Department and U.S. companies to deepen our economic relationship across strategic sectors. Special Representative Syed and the delegation met with senior officials from the Government of Iraq, including the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, the Iraqi private sector, and entrepreneurs. The visit by Special Representative Syed and more than seventy representatives from nearly fifty U.S. companies who participated in the delegation, was the first U.S. commercial delegation to Baghdad since 2018 and took place amid growing interest from U.S. companies in doing business in Iraq. USIBC, with support from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, facilitates dialogue and active engagement between the U.S. private sector and Iraqi government officials at the Federal, Regional, and provincial levels.
