In a meeting in Port Louis today, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma met President Prithvirajsing Roopun to reaffirm the important and deepening relationship between Mauritius and the United States. The Deputy Secretary expressed appreciation for the cooperation on maritime research and security, as exemplified by the recent visit of the University of California research ship Roger Revelle and the multinational maritime exercise, Cutlass Express, which was hosted by Mauritius. The Deputy Secretary also emphasized the critical importance of our shared democratic values. The President and Deputy Secretary highlighted that the groundbreaking for a new $300 million U.S. embassy compound is evidence of the importance that the United States ascribes to its growing bilateral relationship with Mauritius.
