United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai met today with Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Johan Forssell, on the margins of the fourth ministerial meeting of the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC).
 
Ambassador Tai and Minister Forssell shared their hopes for a productive TTC ministerial meeting, which will take place on May 30 and May 31.  They welcomed the new Joint Statement on Transatlantic Forced Labor Trade Strategy issued by the U.S. and EU labor and business participants in the TTC Trade and Labor Dialogue (TALD), and the spirit of collaboration that made this set of joint recommendations possible. 
 
Ambassador Tai emphasized the importance of high-ambition outcomes in the ongoing U.S.-EU negotiations on a targeted critical minerals agreement, which could enable relevant critical minerals extracted or processed in the EU to count toward requirements for clean vehicles under the Section 30D tax credit of the Inflation Reduction Act, and on a new global arrangement for sustainable steel and aluminum trade.
 
Ambassador Tai thanked Minister Forssell for his government’s hospitality in hosting the TTC ministerial.  She noted that the ministerial venue, the city of Luleå in northern Sweden, showcased Sweden’s ambitious efforts to promote a green industrial transition.
