The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on June 8. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement on the United States Agency for International Development’s decision to end U.S. humanitarian food assistance in Ethiopia following news of extensive corruption in Ethiopia’s humanitarian system.

“It is disheartening that the United States is forced to end humanitarian food assistance to Ethiopia at a time when the need for food is growing, but American generosity must not be taken for granted. Investigations must run their course, perpetrators must be held accountable, and the Government of Ethiopia must fully cooperate to reestablish trust and speed the resumption of assistance with the region."
