From June 7-8, 2023, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Lee Satterfield will travel to New York, New York, to deliver remarks at World Monument’s Fund Summer Soirée event honoring the Fund’s 2023 Watch Award recipients and participate in a variety of engagements with private sector executives in support of the Department’s public diplomacy efforts worldwide. The Assistant Secretary’s trip underscores the United States’ strategic engagement in people-to-people diplomacy, which goes beyond the confines of government to meet people where they are and use mutual understanding to create pathways to inclusive and equitable economic opportunities and societal parity and participation.

The Assistant Secretary’s remarks at the World Monuments Fund Summer Soirée will highlight the Department’s shared commitment to Ukraine’s cultural heritage and the importance of global collaboration and coordination. She will emphasize the importance of protecting and preserving cultural heritage during times of conflict and will outline how it helps support the Biden Administration’s broader national security goals. The World Monuments Fund is a long-standing implementing partner for more than 25 of the Department’s cultural preservation projects.

Additionally, the Assistant Secretary will meet with executives in the private sector on a variety of issue areas, including culture, film, music, sports, and youth.
