Readout of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić

The below is attributable to U.S. Mission to the United Nations Spokesperson Nate Evans:

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with the Council of Europe’s (COE) Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić following the conclusion of the Fourth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe held in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked Secretary General Burić for the COE’s role in accountability efforts for Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, in particular the establishment of a Register of Damage to document claims of damage from Russia’s brutal war. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also expressed support for the COE’s leading role in advancing human rights and democracy across Europe, and underscored the value of multilateral institutions like the COE in advancing the work of the Summit for Democracy, the second of which was held in March.
