Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today in Brasilia with Brazilian Special Advisor for International Affairs Celso Amorim. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield highlighted Brazil’s role in addressing global and regional challenges, including climate change and deforestation, the Venezuela regional crisis, the situation in Haiti, making the UN fit for purpose, and Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and Special Advisor Amorim also discussed the importance of the U.S.-Brazil bilateral relationship and opportunities for expanded cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral organizations.

Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield underlined U.S. support for inclusive, sustainable development and noted that strong economic links between the United States and Brazil drive growth in both countries. The two also discussed the importance of evolving the mission and vision of Multilateral Development Banks, the upcoming 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Summit, and Brazil’s role as 2024 president of the G20.
