The United States congratulates Timor-Leste on its parliamentary elections.  We commend Timorese authorities for administering a free, fair, and transparent election and the hundreds of thousands of Timorese voters who peacefully cast their ballots and made their voices heard.  This election reflects the commitment of the people of Timor-Leste to democracy and peaceful political processes and serves as an inspiration for democracy globally.  We wish the newly elected leaders success in their endeavors to serve Timor-Leste and its people and to build a secure, inclusive, and prosperous society.
