Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), Subcommittee on Indo-Pacific Chairwoman Young Kim (R-CA), and Ranking Member Ami Bera (D-CA) issued the following statement on the G7 meetings taking place in Hiroshima, Japan from May 19-21. Earlier this week, the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific held a hearing titled, “Standing United Against the People’s Republic of China’s Economic Aggression and Predatory Practices."
“It is imperative the G7 stand united in defense of the rules-based international order. The G7 should coordinate efforts to continue supporting Ukraine and hold Russia accountable for its brutal and unprovoked war of aggression. We welcome Japan’s leadership in highlighting the growing challenge of China’s economic coercion, a top legislative priority for our committee, and hope the G7 leaders can agree to developing joint mechanisms to counter acts of economic coercion in the Indo-Pacific and beyond."
