Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman met with her Brazilian counterpart, Secretary General of Brazil’s Ministry of External Relations Maria Laura da Rocha, today in Washington, D.C. They discussed our shared priorities on democracy, peace, and security in regional and multilateral institutions, including on Venezuela and Haiti, and in the UN Security Council and G20. The Deputy Secretary and Secretary General laid the groundwork for successful collaboration through the Joint Action Plan to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Discrimination and Promote Equality (JAPER) as well as the Human Rights Dialogue. Deputy Secretary Sherman underscored the United States’ interest in working with Brazil for a peaceful resolution in Ukraine that respects Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
