Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is a four-year activity that will empower persons with disabilities to gain equal access to employment. The activity will improve their access to a labor market that is open, inclusive, and accessible; and help make their voices heard by the government and society. By improving the equity of disadvantaged communities, this activity will increase equitable prosperity and contribute to USAID’s overall goal of a more prosperous and democratic Serbia committed to European integration and self-reliance. 

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is a four-year activity that will empower persons with disabilities to gain equal access to employment. The activity will improve their access to a labor market that is open, inclusive, and accessible; and help make their voices heard by the government and society. By improving the equity of disadvantaged communities, this activity will increase equitable prosperity and contribute to USAID’s overall goal of a more prosperous and democratic Serbia committed to European integration and self-reliance.

 ACTIVITIES

 ● Provide psycho-social support, career guidance, vocational training, and internships for youth with disabilities to help them secure jobs. 

● Pilot a variety of mechanisms and funding options to foster entrepreneurship among persons with disabilities. 

● Build the capacity of employers to support inclusive employment of persons with disabilities. 

● Develop a network of employers who offer job opportunities to persons with disabilities. 

● Support both employers and persons with disabilities in the recruitment process. 

● Implement an outreach campaign to help raise awareness about the issues facing persons with disabilities in the labor market and highlight positive examples.

 EXPECTED RESULTS

 ● Employment skills and performance of up to 1,500 persons with disabilities on the labor market are improved. 

● Advance capacities of up to 200 employers to improve employment processes that involve persons with disabilities. 

● Expand persons with disabilities access to entrepreneurship by providing necessary training and mentoring as well as new financial instruments to     persons with disabilities businesses. 

● Involve more than one hundred policy makers into the process of improving the enabling environment for employment of persons with disabilities on both     local and national level. 

● Reduce barriers and prejudices towards employment of persons with disabilities.
