House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), Ranking Member Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific Chairwoman Young Kim (R-CA) and Ranking Member Ami Bera (D-CA) issued the following statement welcoming Philippine President Bongbong Marcos to Washington.

“We welcome President Marcos to the United States as our two countries deepen this critical partnership. We are pleased our countries are bolstering our combined security with the expansion of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement, which adds four new sites to strengthen the interoperability of the U.S. and Philippine Armed Forces. The United States and Philippines should also signal our joint commitment to the rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific by opposing the People’s Republic of China’s destabilizing behavior in the South China Sea. As we strive to modernize our alliance, we hope this visit advances our cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, democracy, and human rights.”
