The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on April 26. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul issued the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 589 during today’s committee markup.

“The Iranian regime is guilty of brutal human rights abuses against the people of Iran. Congress is committed to holding the regime accountable for these atrocities. The MAHSA Act, which I am proud to cosponsor, holds the administration’s feet to the fire to sanction senior regime officials, including the Supreme Leader and President and their respective offices, for their role in human rights abuses and terrorism. The American people stand with the brave Iranian people who continue to put their lives on the line for the sake of reform and change."
