Vice President Harris is engaging with country leaders during her trip to Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia as a follow on to discussions from the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C., held December 2022. While in Accra, Vice President Harris visited a recording studio to meet young people in the creative industry, where she highlighted OneBeat, the Department of State’s musical exchange program that uses the power of music to engage youth and rejuvenate local economies.
OneBeat Ghana will bring together 10 leading musicians between the ages of 19 and 35 from the United States and Ghana for an intensive residency that will help artists pursue business strategies that support the creative economy and enhance their networks. The launch in Ghana will be the first OneBeat Abroad dedicated to scaling social entrepreneurship projects through creative collaboration
In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Vice President met with President Samia to discuss several initiatives, including the Humphrey Alumni Conference on Food Security on April 28 and the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Conference in July.
The Humphrey Fellowship, a Department of State Fulbright Exchange Program, will convene alumni in Dar es Salaam on April 28, 2023, for a solutions-focused conference and dialogue on promoting food security and resilient food systems in Africa. Informed by key takeaways from the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, alumni will chair roundtables on sustainable land and water management, agricultural technology, and related issues. The conference will showcase the contributions and importance of Humphrey Alumni from several African countries in addressing complex regional and global challenges.
Approximately 100 AWE alumni from several African countries will convene in Tanzania in July to share best practices on growing a business, expanding export capacity, promoting inclusive gender policies, and building a strong international network of women in business. This is the first AWE alumni conference in Africa to discuss entrepreneurship, access to capital, business and financial management, and marketing.
