Announcing the Core Curriculum

As part of the Secretary’s Modernization Agenda, the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) and the Bureau of Global Talent Management (GTM) are launching the Core Curriculum, a series of courses designed to strengthen fundamental skills required for State Department professionals to successfully advance U.S. interests.  The Core Curriculum represents the first step in the Department’s broader efforts to foster a culture of career-long learning and ensure employees are afforded greater opportunities to participate in professional development and training.  The courses are strongly recommended for all mid-career Civil and Foreign Service professionals (GS and GG-12/13/14, FP-05 Office Management Specialists, and FP and FS-04/03/02 Specialists and Generalists).  They focus on a broad spectrum of essential skills, including critical thinking and supervisory leadership, written communication, presentation skills, negotiation, and working in the interagency.
