Readout of Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s Meeting with African Union Chairman and President of Comoros Azali Assoumani

Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, met today with African Union Chairman and President of Comoros Azali Assoumani.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield congratulated Comoros, and President Azali, for assuming the Chair of the African Union for 2023.The Ambassador discussed the importance of African leadership to solving global problems. She also expressed the United States’ support for the African Union joining the G20 and for increased African representation on the UN Security Council.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield expressed her appreciation for the deepening U.S.-Comoros relationship. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield and President Azali discussed opportunities for cooperation in education, health, fisheries, and security. The Ambassador commended Comoros’ significant progress to combat human trafficking under President Azali’s leadership.
