Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres today. Secretary Blinken and Secretary-General Guterres reiterated the importance of safeguarding the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, in light of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. He thanked Secretary-General Guterres for his efforts to strengthen the Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI), and expressed his concern about continued Russian impediments to Ukraine’s food exports. The Secretary noted the United States deep concern regarding the Taliban’s latest restrictions on women’s work with the UN. He also expressed appreciation for the dedicated UN professionals working to assist the Afghan people.
