The following Press Statement was published by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs on April 4. It is reproduced in full below.

Today, the United States is designating Raymond Zina Rahme and Teddy Zina Rahme, also known as the ‘Rahme brothers,’ along with two Lebanon-based entities and one UAE-based entity they control. These individuals contributed to widespread electricity disruptions by importing and selling tainted fuel that damaged power plants across Lebanon.

The Rahme brothers used their influence to enrich themselves, while the people of Lebanon suffered from their corruption. By taking this action today, the United States underscores its commitment to combatting corruption globally and supports the calls for accountability and transparency reforms in Lebanon. The Lebanese government should implement desperately needed economic reforms for the sake of Lebanon and its people.

(For more information on today’s actions, please see the Department of the Treasury’s press release.)
