The United States Mission to the United Nations today announced the U.S. delegation to the UN 2023 Water Conference, to be held March 22-24, 2023, at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Representative of the United States to the United Nations, will serve as Heads of Delegation to the conference. Secretary Haaland will deliver the national statement on behalf of the United States on Wednesday, March 22. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield will deliver remarks on Thursday, March 23 at the United States-hosted event, “Stronger through Water” on the margins of the UN 2023 Water Conference.
U.S. Delegation Alternate Representatives include U.S. Department of Energy Under Secretary for Science and Innovation Geraldine Richmond, U.S. Commissioner of the International Boundary and Water Commission Maria-Elena Giner, U. S. Agency for International Development Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman, U.S. Representative to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture Ambassador Cindy McCain, and U.S. Special Envoy for Biodiversity and Water Resources and Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Monica Medina.
The Water Conference – formally known as the 2023 Conference for the Midterm Comprehensive Review of Implementation of the UN Decade for Action on Water and Sanitation (2018-2028) – aims to assess progress on Sustainable Development Goal 6 and to identify actions needed to achieve the Global Goals by 2030.
