The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 23. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul released the following statement on TikTok CEO Shou Chew testifying before Congress today.

“The threat of TikTok, under the control of the Chinese Communist Party, cannot be mitigated so the only solution is ByteDance’s full divestment from all assets and control of TikTok. Any promise short of this made by TikTok’s CEO at today’s Energy and Commerce hearing should not be accepted. If ByteDance is unable or unwilling to meet these terms, the administration must move to sanction the company. My bill gives the president the authority to implement such a ban."
